The term ‘hatha yoga’ refers to a wide range of physical practices including asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) and kriyas (cleansing methods). The ultimate aim of these practices is improving the health of our bodies, calming of the mind and stilling of our thoughts to reach a state of harmony with all the seemingly contradictory expressions of life.

The word ‘hatha‘ literally means ‘ force/ with strength‘  most likely indicating the persistent effort of both body and mind required to stay on the yogic path. Ha-tha yoga has also been interpreted as representing the union between the inhale (ha) and the exhale (tha), as well as the marriage of our solar and lunar energies.

Many modern styles of yoga (for example kundalini, vinyasa, ashtanga & Iyengar) draw inspiration from the hatha tradition and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, one of the most important hatha texts that we will explore during your training.



Our 200hr hatha yoga teacher training is structured according to the following modules:
​
  • Morning practice: From 6-8am you will have a chance to experience different sequences and techniques during led classes and also an opportunity to develop a personal practice that suits your body and needs. This also the time to see the practical application of what you have learnt during the theory class. Teachers will always be present to support and make suggestions & adjustments when/if necessary.
​
  • Asana methodology & teaching practice: From 11 am - 1pm, asanas (postures) will be explored both from a traditional and modern perspective bearing in mind important issues of safety, functional anatomy and longevity of you practice. You will also learn how to creatively combine postures to deliver  dynamic flows while still acknowledging the more traditional approach.  We pride ourselves for preparing our students to be fully competent and confident teachers, able to guide a yoga sequence for a range of classes from the moment they have completed their training. For that reason, you will have a chance every day to practice teaching your fellow students under the guidance of our experienced teachers.​
​
  • Adjustments: From 10-11am, here you will learn how to safely ease your future students into postures and how to modify the practice to meet different people’s needs.
​
  • Anatomy & Pranayama: From 4.15-5.15pm, a joint module of pranayama (breathing techniques) and yoga based anatomy. ​ We will combine both theory and practice of the main pranayamas exploring how these techniques physiologically benefit the body and mind. You will also learn how yogic practices affect the main systems of the body in a fun and interactive way. 
​
  • Philosophy: From 5.15pm-6pm, some of the most poignant excerpts of ‘The Yoga Sutras of  Patanjiali’ will be examined and discussed to illustrate how this ancient text is very relevant today as a tool to navigate life with more grace. 
​
  • Meditation: ​From 6-7pm, each day different meditation techniques will be introduced to you...and on Fridays afternoon sun set meditation by the ocean!
THIS IS FOR YOU IF:

  • you have never done a yoga teacher training before and looking for one that gives you solid foundations to start your journey as a yoga teacher
 
  • you consider yoga to be more than a physical practice and would like to deepen your understanding of the different aspects of yoga
 
  • you are drawn to a slow/medium pace of asana practice.​ If you steer towards vigorous physical practices we suggest our ashtanga vinyasa yoga teacher training or vinyasa flow teacher training.  if you are looking for a more therapeutic approach, you might want to consider our yoga therapy teacher training.​
