- 200H Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series at our school Abhijna School of Yoga 
or 
- Two Years of Continuous practice + 200H TTC + expertise on teaching primary series.
Course Material provided with the program:   
Ashtanga Yoga Intermediate Series Manual.
Course fee:  2300 USD (Shared Accommodation). The fee includes only accommodation. The students should budget an extra of 200 USD for food.

The 300 Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Abhijna School of Yoga on Ashtanga Vinyasa Intermediate Series requieres a previous compulsory foundational 200 Hour program, on the Primary Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa. As part of the application process, the student should send a copy of his/her previous 200 Hour YTTC Certificate from a Yoga Alliance USA Registered Institution. If unable to complete this requirement, student should undergo first a 200H YTTC on Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series preferably at Abhijna School of Yoga*.

Some classes will be shared with the 200H TTC students as they are fundamental for the practice.

Teach 100 hours after completion and send proof of teaching to the school, Finish their written assignments and pass the written and Teaching Practicums Tests with passing mark of 70%.

Overview
Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Program (+300-Hours) in Ashtanga Vinyasa Intermediate Series
The Abhijna School of Yoga & Meditation 300-Hour Teacher Training is a month-long residential program held in Varkala, Kerala. It is a rigorous program taught by Mahesh Chandra and Ellie Ruales. It attracts students from around the world and produces
empowered, knowledgeable and confident yoga teachers.

It emphasizes the essentials of the primary series as an essential tool for the foundation and development of the intermediate series. The student will go over the details of doing and teaching yoga asana postures of both series, hands-on adjustments for both series, study of yoga philosophy, practicums on teaching pranayama, bandhas, and mantra, learning foundational functional anatomy and subtle energy, while exploring modifications and variations to deepen the understanding of the intermediate series.

PHASE I - First 200 Hours: Student will begin the +300 hours with 200 hours of intensive training across a 4-week intensive program. The topics we cover are described below.

PHASE II - Remaining 100 Hours to be distributed by the student as follows: 
  • Mentored Teaching (Minimum 80 Hours, up to 100 Hours): Student is required to be teaching his/her own classes.  Student will have to send a letter from a recognized studio/school that states  that he/she has successfully completed 80 hours of asana teaching in that particular studio.  If any challenges arise from teaching, the student is welcome to contact Ellie Ruales for mentoring.
and/or
  • Apprenticing (Minimum 20 Hours up to 100 Hours): Students are welcome to assist in Mahesh’s regular schedule classes at Abhijna School of Yoga & Meditation. 
and an elective of 
  • Independent Study (Up to20 Hours):  You will choose a topic for in-depth study and exploration. Working directly with Ellie, you will design a way of getting at your topic (readings, essays, elective workshops, self-study).

300H YTTC OBJECTIVE
A 300-hour advanced training is designed to build upon and deepen the trainee’s understanding of the fundamental concepts of teaching yoga that are generally taught at the 200-hour level. A 300-hour advanced training prepares its trainees to teach principles and techniques of yoga that are more advanced, more detailed, and/or more subtle, and the training enables them to teach with greater skill than could be expected of a RYT 200.

6:00 - 8:00 AM - Asana Practice (Led Class until day 6, from 7th day onwards 
Rest of the day is a holiday.  Students are advised to dedicate this time to practice teaching as well doing their homework.

SUNDAY
Sunday is a holiday.  Students are advised to dedicate this day to studying what has been covered throughout the week, to practice teaching at home to their classmates as well as to use this time to prepare their case study.

*Schedule is subject to change in order to ensure that the full curriculum is covered.  The schedule changes every week, changes on schedule will be sent via email.

CURRICULUM

1. Techniques, Training and Practice: 50 hours (40 Contact Hours + 10 Non-Contact Hours)

- Primary Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa : 25 Hours
- Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa:  25 Hours
Topics include asanas from both series, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation and other traditional yoga techniques. They include analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques and guided practice of the techniques themselves.

2. Teaching Methodology: 40 hours (30 contact hours + 10 Non-contact Hours)

Topics in this category include Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting.  Reading Assignments on Qualities of a teacher, The student learning process and Business aspects of teaching yoga.
Keeping in mind the Five Categories of Asana, the student will practice and learn the key poses in each category of asana (forward bends, backbends, twists, inversions, and extensions) and will begin to develop a relationship to both the form and the function of these different categories.

The student learns the Principles of Demonstrating Asanas, to effectively demonstrate and emphasize an alignment or other focus for the specific pose or sequence of poses. 

3. Anatomy and Physiology: 15 hours (10 Contact hours + 5 Non-Contact Hours)

Learning foundational human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) and may also include  energy anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.). Includes both the study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc).  Videos on Yoga Anatomy  of 4-6 hours will be part of the curriculum.

4. Yoga Philosophy & Lifestyle for Yoga Teachers: 30 hours (25 Contact hours + 5 Non-Contact Hours)    

The study of yoga philosophies and traditional texts, such as the Yoga Sutras and Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Reading assignments on Yoga lifestyle.  Reading assignments will also include modern yoga texts from renown authors such as Dona Farhi, Mark Stephens, David Swenson and Gregor Mahele.

5. Practicum: 30 hours (15 Contact Hours + 15 Non-Contact Hours)
Student is required to attend all assigned daily teaching practicums as well as the final teaching practicums of his/her class.  Each trainee must prepare themselves accordingly to teach the intermediate series given sequence.

6. Additional Categories: 30 hours (15 Contact Hours + 15 Non-Contact Hours) 
Additional Categories chosen by the school include:
  • Meditation Sessions (15 - 20 contact hours)
  • Nada Yoga Workshops (4-8 hours, optional)
  • Karma Yoga (10-15 hours - non contact) 
The requirements detailed above ensure that all trainees of Abhijna School of Yoga & Meditation receive training and instruction in five educational categories for a minimum number of 208+ hours (the total minimum contact hours with Lead Trainer(s) is 135 hours). The remaining contact hours (100 hours)  should be done by the student as described on Phase II.

TOTAL HOURS: 300 hours

PHASE II - Remaining 100 Hours to be distributed by the student as follows:

You will choose a topic for in-depth study and exploration.  Topics can be related to all aspects of yoga (for example Nada, Bakthi, Karma, Etc). Working directly with Ellie, you will design a way of getting at your topic (essays, research document, etc).
Or 
  • Written Assignment Study (Up to20 Hours):  Proposing and answering 25 questions that have been derived by the 100 hours of teaching. Questions can be into the subjects of Asana, Pranayama, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras or Anatomy.
answers should be at least of two to three paragraphs, written in the student’s own words, yet citations (of a maximum of one additional paragraph) can be added.  Mentioning the citation (book, page and author is mandatory).  Linking the citation with the answer is also mandatory.

The student will be given reading assignments, it is recommended to study ahead.  books can be brought or bought them at the Yogi Shop.  Included in the training there is a Yoga Manual, all other material should be purchased by the student in digital or physical from.
